Sunday Cinema Club

Sunday Cinema Club, Sharjah Art Foundation’s newest summer film programme, offers screenings of regional classics, genre movies and animated features. Each screening is followed by a talk or workshop that further explores the film's cinematic language or social background.

Series 1: Summer of Wonder: Animated Fantasies for Children and Families

This series takes audiences on a wondrous journey through the magical world of animated films, where transformation and time travel become a vehicle for understanding the self and the world. Together, the three films show us how imagination can help navigate emotions, or overcome challenges and grow.

Watch and Create: Summer Cinema Club
Learning Programme for Children and Families

Extend your cinematic experience through drawing and mixed media. View an animated fantasy film about nature, family and magical worlds. Then produce an art project inspired by what you have seen.

Parents or guardians are required to remain with their children, regardless of age, during both the film screening and art activities.

Series 2: Lunar Visions: Sci-Fi Films in the Space Age

This three-film series demonstrates how international filmmakers pushed past the technological limits of their eras to imagine the Moon long before humanity set foot on its surface. Spanning three decades of innovation, these films trace the evolution of space cinema, from the practical effects of the 1930s to the striking realism and prophetic AI of the 1960s.

Series 3: Uprooted Realities: Identity in Postcolonial Arab Cinema

Delving into notions of belonging and displacement, this three-film series spans various West Asian and North African generations and political realities. It examines how camera composition and mise-en-scène articulate complex personal experiences.
